Chain of Selfishness

I think the world is run by a majority of extremely selfish people.

I find selfishness to be one of the most unattractive traits a person can have. Given there are variations of selfishness that can be deemed as healthy or good for self-preservation… most of the time it is just another trait used to tag a jerk.

But, can we really blame people when they are raised to look out for themselves all the time? To be trained to trust no one and to care for their own interests alone? Fuck everyone else, as they say… that is the motto most people will choose to live by. We are a society of jaded selfish beings. That include you and me. Yes, no one is perfect in this world.

History has shown great accomplishment from leaders who at certain points in their life had to act on selfishness to gain a greater glory for their country, cause, whatever… but these are men and women who paved the way for a better life, society for all of us… but what about the average joe who’s just plain selfish? Runaway when a friend in need of them the most, or just being there only when things are going their way.

Why being a jerk when there is no higher purpose for it?

I have gone through enough loss in life in all facets of material, spiritual and emotional levels to understand that there is nothing in this world that we can feel and touch with our hands and body that is worth our integrity. It is the love, kindness, concern and compassion we shared with the people that we know that will matter in the end.

We came into this life with nothing, we will leave it the same way.

So if you have extra, give it away… if you have some spare time, be patient with others… that added push to help and to give will matter so much in the end. Selfishness will do nothing for you but make you lonely and miserable… and it will leave you surrounded with no one else but the only person you were trained to trust... You.

I must admit I have been selfish myself but I'm sure the Lord will know what to do with me when the time come.
