The Mirror Effect [ Part 1 ]

Since the beginning of time, humans have been preoccupied with their looks. There was a constant search for the best instrument to reflect our image back to us. A pool of still clear water was mans' very first mirror. Today, we have created the best instrument that offers a perfect reflection. The Mirror can be found in every modern home and remains one of the most popular items of our time.

How many times have we observed our children and thought to ourselves :

"That's me!"
"That's their farther in them!"

"Oh, my goodness! Doesn't that sound familiar!"

That is the basic principle of the mirror effect: people do what people see. If we take a good look at ourselves, we'll find in our own behaviour and mannerisms a reflection of many people who have played very significant roles in our lives. It could be our parents, bosses, best friends, lecturers, mentors, religious leader or even our idols. We can't help but take on the value systems, beliefs as well as the flaws of these people.

Similarly, our children mirror us. They absorb and reflect our positive as well as negative characteristics. Mirrors are capable of only one function: reflecting - they tell us what we are doing, or not doing. They are incapable of following the command to "do what I say but don't do what I do".
